What's the difference between a DVR and an NVR?

DVRs are older — they take analog camera signals over coax and digitize them. NVRs are modern — they take IP / PoE camera streams over Ethernet (Cat6). NVRs give you sharper images, easier expansion, and modern remote viewing apps. We install NVRs.

How much storage do we need?

A 16-camera 4MP system at 30 days of continuous recording typically needs 8–16 TB of surveillance-grade hard drive space. The right number depends on resolution, frame rate, and motion vs. continuous recording. We size it during the scoping call.

Will we lose footage if the power goes out?

Not if the NVR is on a UPS battery backup, which we include in every install. The UPS rides through short outages and lets the NVR shut down cleanly during longer outages so you don't corrupt the drives.

Can footage be backed up off-site?

Yes. We can configure cloud backup for critical cameras (entry, register, dock door) so even if the NVR is stolen or destroyed, the important footage is safe. Cloud retention is sized separately from local retention.

Can our IT team manage the NVR after you install it?

Absolutely. We hand over admin credentials, an IP / port map, and the mobile app setup. Many of our clients' IT teams or MSPs run day-to-day; we're available for hardware service or expansion when they need us.

Does my industry require a minimum retention period?

Sometimes. Banks, cannabis retail, and some insurance carriers have written retention requirements (often 30, 60, or 90 days). Most commercial offices, warehouses, and retail have no legal minimum but their insurance policy or franchise agreement may specify one. Check with your insurance carrier and franchise contract — we'll size storage to whatever number you give us.
